In this unique indigenous Minecraft Education experience, students will explore through several activities, the lives and traditional knowledge of the Coastal Peoples of British Columbia, focusing on sustainable ecological practices and the interconnectedness of all living and non-living things.
I would like to acknowledge and thank the Elders and Knowledge Keepers of the Kwikwetlem First Nation, the educators at School District 43 (Coquitlam), and all the contributors at Logics Academy for helping me create and contribute to this authentic indigenous experience. I would also like to acknowledge and thank the creators and contributors of the Manitou Ahbee Aki world (also available from the Minecraft Education Library) for not only providing inspiration for the Pacific Northwest Coast Experience, but for also for various addon pack entities we borrowed (bear, eagle, crow, beaver and deer).
Both seasons of this experience along with educator guides are available at the official Minecraft Education website library, while Season 1 can also be found in the in-game Library:
Season 1
Season 2
Orca's are well known visitors to the coasts of British Columbia. No coastal experience would be complete without them, and you can see several pods of them around the coastal areas of this world.
Seals are well known inhabitants of the coastal areas of British Columbia, and a major food source for orcas. You can find many groups of seals sunning themselves and swimming around the coastal areas.
Sasquatch or Big Foot as they are sometimes known are a shy, mythical creature important in the lore and legends of the coastal peoples of British Columbia. If you are patient, quiet, and respectful, you might just catch a glimpse of one of these majestic creatures.
